The vampire diaries is an American super natural drama television series by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec. The series is based on the popular book by L.J Smith. The series premiered on September 10th 2009 with 171 episodes over eight seasons. The vampire diaries focuses on a fictional town of Mystic Falls in virgins, with a supernatural history.
The series followed two brothers Damon and Stefan Salvatore played by Ian Somerhalder as Damon Salvatore and Paul Wesley as Stefan Salvatore. The two brothers as eternal adolescents having been leading normal lives hiding there bloodthirsty condition as vampires moving on before there non-aging is noticed. The two brothers return to the fictional town of mystic falls where they grow up and become vampires, along the way they met Elana Gilbert played by Nina Dobrev. Elana getting over her parents death meets the Salvatore brothers and falls in love with Stefan Salvatore while Damon also has feelings for Elana; Damon is convinced that there Elana feels the same way.
Over time as the season develops more supernatural beings are introduced; Kat Graham playing Bonnie Bennett, Elana's best friend who is also a witch. Nina Dobrev also plays a doppelganger which is an apparition or double of a living person. Werewolfs are also introduced during season two.
The vampire diaries uses a lot of lighting and sounds to create the effect they wanted. The colours throughout the series is normally dark colours such as purples, browns and blacks to create the sense of mystery; as dramatic scenes come in they normally only shine cream and white lights on part of the actors faces to show a sense of the unknown. When the tension builds so does the music and in parts the music cuts outs for the build up to an intense scene.
In many buildings there is normally a fire lit which can suggest danger when there is no other lighting in the room ,it shows the fire as dominant and captures are attention.
In my opinion I really enjoy watching the television series as it has an action, drama, thriller and a romantic theme throughout the seasons. I would recommend it to people from the age 14-19 as I feel like I enjoy watching it in my spare time and it makes you feel what the actors are feeling. The vampire diaries films on a well created stage which makes it seem realistic with well designed props.
